Answers to common questions.
Is participation really free?
Yes. Registration for Charity Challenges is free. Fundraising is voluntary and never affects your eligibility to compete, rank or earn recognition.
Do I have to fundraise to participate?
No. You can race, submit results and earn recognition without raising a cent. Fundraising exists around participation - never as a condition of it.
What is the difference between a fundraising team and a competition team?
A fundraising team raises money together; a competition team competes together. They are separate entities, tracked separately, even when the same people are in both.
What is an umbrella team?
An umbrella team unites multiple fundraising teams under one banner - for example a national organization with regional teams, or a corporation with employee teams.
Where does the raised money go?
Funds support NWANA instructor training: course access, materials, assessment and certification for people nominated by organizations, plus program coordination and impact tracking.
How do organizations get involved?
An organization submits a training request, nominates its own people (staff, professionals, coaches or volunteers), and NWANA funds and delivers their Nordic Walking instructor education. The organization decides how the training is used in its existing programs.
Does NWANA run medical programs for organizations?
No. NWANA provides education and capacity-building. Organizations keep full control over their programs, clinical decisions and professional standards.
Which disciplines can I compete in?
Nordic Walking, Race Walking, Running and Cycling. Each has separate leaderboards and rankings.
What are the two challenge formats?
Distance/accumulation challenges (log miles over a period) and speed/performance challenges (fastest time over a fixed distance).
Are donations tax-deductible?
NWANA is a 501(c)(3) public charity. Donations are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law. Consult your tax advisor.
Can my employer match my donation?
Possibly - many employers match charitable gifts. See our Matching Gifts page for how to check.
How do I submit results?
Through RunSignup, per the rules published for each challenge. Distance challenges use logged mileage; speed challenges use verified times.
